Saturday I got the chance to tour the FX Matt Brewing Co. in Utica. There's no better way to spend a Saturday than learning about beer, and drinking beer.

The brewery holds tours every Friday and Saturday (during the winter), at 1pm and 3pm. If you've never gone, I suggest you do - at least once. The tour takes you through the journey of the first F.X. Matt, who moved to Utica from Germany. You learn about his life, him buying The West End Brewing Co., then making it the F.X. Matt Brewing Co.

The tour also takes you through the steps of brewing beer - from adding in the hops, fermentation, bottling the beer and everything between.

You'll pick up some cool facts about the brewery, including the fact that they use an anaerobic bio-gas digester (which is something that is normally seen on dairy farms). But to know more about that and what they use it for, you better reserve yourself a tour!

You'll also learn about the different kind of beers they make and how they are made.

The tour will teach you about prohibition in the Utica area. You'll get to see a speakeasy set up, and even know some of the passwords that were used out here.

I took this tour on Saturday, and had a blast! Check out some of the pics from inside the brewery.

If you're looking for a good way to spend your Friday or Saturday, head to the brewery. You'll learn some awesome things, and you get to sample some of the world's best beers in their tavern (right after the tour).
