Taylor Swift announced to fans during her worldwide live stream on Monday, Aug. 18 that her new single 'Shake It Off' and new album '1989' are unlike anything she's ever done before -- and from the few hints she's dropped about her new LP, it really sounds like it will be a whole new side of Swift!

The 24-year-old sat down with Fusion to discuss expectations on her upcoming release, and Swifties, you might want to take a deep breath before continuing. Taylor is flipping her reputation as a heartbroken singer-songwriter upside down!

"'1989' is such a different album from 'Red,'" she explained. "[With 'Red'] you'd hear mandolin on one song and then on the next song you'd hear dubstep. And you'd just sort of think, 'What?' It was also emotionally -- it was a very devastating record. It was about dealing with an intense heartbreak and '1989' is about the phase after that where you brush yourself off and you're OK."

Sounds like T. Swift has had a serious change on her outlook! Part of it, she revealed, came naturally with age and maturity. "Writing 'Red,' I was 21 and 22. Back then, I think my priorities were different," she told Fusion. "I was very enamored by romance and the idea of that. 24? At this point, I just want to be with my friends and I want to make music and I want to play shows and I want to travel the world. I want to define my life on my own terms."

Does this mean we won't receive any songs ambiguously referring to the short relationship between her and Harry Styles? That part will be disappointing, but '1989' is sure to be a great album even without her calling out the One Direction member!

So far Taylor has dropped some huge, unexpected bombs on what's to come with her new album. If you're taken aback by the turn of events, then maybe you can find comfort in knowing that Taylor is pretty taken aback, too!

"I think my life has changed in ways that have surprised me," she said. "Deciding to spend my time in New York, cutting my hair, becoming all of a sudden surrounded by this great group of strong, beautiful, smart women who challenge me and push me forward -- those are all changes in my life."

She continued, "With this album, I try not to do anything too overtly. Yes, my life is consisting of priority on friends right now, but I don't have any song that's like 'Best Friend Anthem.' I really am trying to put these messages across subtly, and tell stories where those aspects of my life are felt rather than said to you."

Taylor's new album admittedly sounds nothing like what's expected from her, but that makes it even more exciting, don't you think?

'1989' will be available to surprise us all on Oct. 27!
