I remember when I was in college. I grew up in Hamilton, a safe community, and wanted to experience the same safety that I felt my entire life in the town.

There's something called the Clery Act, which requires all colleges and universities receiving federal funding to publish crime statistics each year. I always looked at the statistics of my college when they were made public just to have the knowledge of everything going on.

According to a ranking from Niche, five Central New York schools make the list the safest college campuses in the state. The study is based on statistics and student reviews using data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Factors include campus crime rate and rates of residence hall date violence, residence hall rape, alcohol-related arrests, and drug-related arrests.
