An upstate New York college hockey goalie is about to take the biggest leap of her career, straight to the Olympic stage.

From College Rink to Olympic Ice

Union College's Junior goaltender Monja Wagner has been named to Switzerland’s roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics, earning her first-ever Olympic appearance at the Milano-Cortina Games in Italy this February

While this is her Olympic debut, Wagner is far from new to international competition.

She has represented Switzerland multiple times, including the Swiss National Team, the IIHF Women’s World Championships, and Switzerland’s Under-18 National Team.

She is also one of just four NCAA women’s hockey players selected to represent Switzerland at the Games, placing her among an elite group of collegiate athletes worldwide.

Wagner made her international debut in net during the 2025 Women’s Euro Hockey Tour, earning her first international win in a shootout victory over Sweden, along with Player of the Game honors.

A Standout Goalie at the College Level

Wagner suits up for the women’s hockey team at Union College, where she has quietly made history. She is the first women’s hockey player from Union to ever be named to an Olympic roster. And on the collegiate ice, Wagner has built a reputation as a calm, clutch presence in goal.

She has appeared in 25 games, posting:

  • A 2.90 goals-against average

  • A .915 save percentage

  • Three career shutouts

One of those shutouts included a 35-save performance against Dartmouth, a game that moved her into second place all-time on her program’s shutout list. She’s also played a key role in historic wins over nationally ranked opponents.

What’s Next in Milano-Cortina

Switzerland will compete in Group A, alongside the United States, Canada, Finland, and Czechia.

Wagner and Team Switzerland will open Olympic play on February 6 at 8:40 a.m. EST against Czechia. She’ll also share the ice with standout teammates like Alina Muller of the Boston Fleet and Nicole Vallario of the New York Sirens.
