The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi begin this Friday, February 7th, with the Opening Ceremony. As you get set to cheer on Team USA for the next few weeks, these are some of the Olympic athletes to watch as they go for the gold.
America will be represented well at Sochi. Of Team USA's 230 athletes, 106 of them have Olympic experience and 49 have won medals. 19 of those medals were gold, according to The Boston Globe.
These are three of the biggest Team USA stories to follow during the Winter Olympics.
1. Figure Skating:
Two time world champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White will compete against Canada's Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir who are the defending gold medalists.
2. Snowboarding:
Shaun White, the defending winner of men's snowboard halfpipe is not only amazing to watch, he's also favored to win. White will also be competing in slopestyle in Sochi. He's probably the most famous face worldwide on Team USA.
3. Bobsled:
31 year old Lolo Jones is part of our four person bobsledding team hoping to get gold at Sochi. This will be her first Winter Olympics. The two time Olympic hurdler's inclusion on the bobsledding team has stirred up controversy but even bad press gets people watching and talking.
Cheer on Team USA as they go for the gold!
