If I was in a different place in my life, I would definitely look to adopt an animal. I do have my cat, Peaches already. I saved her from being thrown in a shelter. She was under the porch at my mom's neighbor's house, and was open to letting people care for her. The rest is history and she's my baby.

If you've been thinking about adopting a pet, and you conveniently are heading out to the New York State Fair on Sunday - you're in luck! The fair's first ever “Adopt A Pet Day” is being held! Visit the Chevy Court Pavilion from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday!

The Wayne County Animal Shelter, Oswego County SPCA, and the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society are hosting the event.  The shelters will bring an estimated 30 animals to the Fair, all of which were born in New York. Anyone interested in adopting a pet should be aware that each shelter has its own vetting process.

Acting Fair Director Troy Waffner said, “There are so many animals at shelters across the State that are looking for a loving home so we are proud to have a small part in helping to make those connections.  Adopt a Pet Day is new to the Fair, and I encourage all fairgoers to stop by Chevy Court and consider taking a pet home.”

If you wanted to spend the day at the fair, you can still do so! You have until 3 pm to pick up your new fur family member. After picking up the new pet, fairgoers must go home immediately-- you cannot linger at the Fair with your new pet.

Fairgoers can also help support pet adoptions by making a donation or purchasing a t-shirt. T-shirts will be on sale during adoption hours.

Those who adopt will also receive a free New York State Fair dog collar.
