The famous boardwalk in Atlantic City has become a victim of Hurricane Sandy.  The northern portion of the boardwalk has washed away in the heavy surf.

The storm is still (as of 5PM Monday) a few hours away from landfall, but Atlantic City has already seen devastating damage.  The iconic boardwalk has washed away as evidenced by this photo shared by our sister station, NJ101.5.  They are also reporting that Atlantic County first responders have ceased operations today as it's too unsafe for them to conduct any rescues.

UPDATE 10AM 10/30/12

The northern portion of the boardwalk (north of the new Revel Casino) washed away yesterday during the storm.

New video Tuesday Morning from the New Jersey National Guard shows devastation of the coastline near Seaside Heights.

Below is a video taken early in the day Monday by the Press of Atlantic City showing a location further south on the boardwalk.
