CNY Company Makes Big Donation for Harvey Relief
Many of us in CNY have been moved by images and stories of the devastation Hurricane Harvey has brought to Texas. One local company is stepping up to help in a big way.
Chobani, the Greek yogurt company headquartered in New Berlin, is sending 300,000 Chobani products from their New York and Idaho facilities to communities impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Images from their Facebook post show employees loading trucks and signing a banner that will also be sent to hurricane victims.
The company, founded by Turkish immigrant Hamdi Ulakaya, sent the first refrigerated truck to Texas, full of the company's Greek yogurt.
Ulakaya told his employees, via letter: "We've all been watching the storm and floods in Texas and now Louisiana, and thinking about our friends, families and communities we're connected to..."
As of this writing, the death toll from Hurricane Harvey is up to 38. Estimates for the economic impact of the flooding is in the billions of dollars.
