I have noticed something big over the past few months - the Utica, Rome, and surrounding area has some of the biggest, happiest families I have ever seen.

It seems like families in Central New York stick together, and that's not a bad thing. Everywhere I go I meet someone new, but that person seems to be connected to someone else I know already. And that's saying a lot because I don't know THAT many people in CNY yet.

I find it really cool that families are so big out here. Everyone seems to know all their cousins - and most of them still live in the area. I may be a little jealous even (I come from a very small family - I don't even know half my cousins or aunts, or anything like that). It seems like everybody's family and extended family grew up in this area, and plan to stay in this area (for the most part).

Even back in Michigan, there wasn't as many 'big families' as there is out here. Don't get me wrong - there were some, but it's not like out here. I can probably recall maybe (and that's a big 'maybe), 10 families that were so connected with their extended family. So far out here, well... I don't think I've met anyone who doesn't have their cousins, or grandparents or some family members close by.

I love it! I think this is why Utica, Rome, all over Central New York - has such that 'home-like' feeling. It's probably because this is home, and has been home for a lot of the same families for years and years and Years! It's one of those things I don't think a lot of people even notice, but I notice it - and it makes me love this area even more!
