The latest victim of the retail apocalypse is Dressbarn. The women's clothing store plans to close all 650 of its stores.

Dressbarn - which is owned by the same company that owns Ann Taylor and Loft - said in a press release the company is not "operating at an acceptable level of profitability in today’s retail environment," according to CNBC.

What does this mean for CNY shoppers, since Dressbarn has locations in New Hartford, Syracuse, and Colonie?

The stores won't be closed immediately, and the details for "wind down" of Dressbarn business hasn't been worked out just yet. The company says they'll notify employees as they make decisions about which stores are closing first.

In my opinion, now would be a good time to use up those store credits and gift cards, and make any necessary returns.

Dressbarn is just the latest in a string of retail closures that have impacted the Central New York retail landscape - including Charlotte Russe, Payless, and of course, Sears and Toys R Us.
