It's no surprise that we're dealing with a bitter cold snap.  But how cold is it around the region?  My phone told me Utica was at 11 below zero just before midnight on January 23. I wondered if I could find colder temperatures to make me feel better - and I sure did.

I was shocked to see that it was warmer in Old Forge.  The hamlet checked in at -9.

Ogdensburg was at -11 and Messina was at -15

But it was the Adirondack lakes that took the prize tonight.

Tupper Lake reported -24 and Saranac Lake hit -27.  This would not be the right night for that polar plunge you may have been contemplating.

Stay warm!
