Fly To Europe – Closer and Cheaper Than You Think
We have quite a few airport options within a few hours of the Utica area. It's always a good idea to shop around to find the best fares. But by next summer, there could be another option, and it means really cheap flights to Europe.
Norwegian Air plans to make Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, NY one of it's new US hubs. While it's about a 3 hour drive from Utica, it looks like it will offer one-way tickets to select European locations for as low as $69, according to reports in the Wall Street Journal.
They hope to begin offering flights from the Hudson Valley to England, Scotland, Ireland and Norway, with plans to add Paris to the list of destinations soon. The Hudson Valley Post reports that tickets should be on sale by early 2017 with flights to begin in June or July.
But beware, those cheap tickets do come with a different cost. Norwegian Air may be using "below market" crews from Asia to keep the prices low. Thrillist reports that US airlines and the airline unions are very critical of the deal since it could take jobs away from their crews. Does this make you nervous or will it be just as safe and reliable as other airlines?
