Former First Lady Betty Ford, the widow of President Gerald Ford, passed away last night at age 93.

According to  The New York Times, she died in Palm Springs, California with family members by her bedside.

She overcame an alcohol and pill addiction and helped found the Betty Ford Clinic, one of the best-known rehab centers in the country.

President Barack Obama called Ford a "powerful advocate for women's health and women's rights."

In 1975, Newsweek named Ford Woman of the Year.

Gerald Ford died on December 26, 2006, at the couple's home in Rancho Mirage. He was 93.
