With heavy winds in effect for Central New York, we're doing our utmost at Lite 98.7 to make you aware of the dangers and also give you some wind-themed musical suggestions to keep your mind off the howling winds while you're hunkered down in a safe place.

First, and most importantly, the official warning from the National Weather Service, which posts high wind advisories "when sustained winds of 40 mph are expected for at least an hour, or gusts of 58 mph or greater" are present. Here are the details:

* LOCATIONS...Portions of Central New York, including Madison,
Oneida, Onondaga, Yates, Seneca, and Southern Cayuga counties.

* HAZARDS...Strong winds.

* WINDS...West 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

* TIMING...The strongest winds and most frequent gusts are
expected to occur this afternoon, and into the evening hours.

* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines.
Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be
difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

And here's a list of famous wind-themed songs for a play-list to entertain you (and maybe your pets) during the potentially stressful conditions:
