Some people who live in Ilion have noticed that the water from their faucets is not clear.  It has a darker, almost reddish tint.

Ilion Mayor Terry Leonard told the Times Telegram that iron content from new wells has been causing the water to be discolored in some cases.  he said the state Department of Health is working with the water department to stabilize the iron, but it may take up to 90 days for the water to clear.

The Ilion mayor also said the water is safe for drinking and bathing.  Leonard said residents of Ilion who have questions about the water can call the village office at 895-7449.
