Today is the start of a new feature called "Lost 80's Hit" Wednesday. Every week we will spotlight an 80's song that did fairly well on the charts, but in the last couple decades seemed to have got "lost" or forgotten about.

What do you know or remember about the 1987 top 5 hit, "Luka?" The song was written and recorded by singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega for her second studio album, Solitude Standing. The album sold over a million copies in the US, due in large part to the success of Luka.

It was written about, and from the point of view, of an abused child.

In a 1987 Swedish television special, Vega explained her inspiration for writing the song was about a boy who's real name was Luka. Although she didn't think he was abused, he still seemed different from other children in her neighborhood.

Luka peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 on August 3, 1987. It earned Vega nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 1988 Grammy Awards.
