Retail giant J.C. Penney plans to lay of 2000 employees and also close 33 stores by this spring.

The move, announced yesterday, is part of J.C. Penney's attempt to turn the store around, according to USA Today.  The layoffs and closing of stores will save the retailer about $65 million this year.

None of J.C. Penney stores on the list to close are here in New York state, which is good news for local J.C. Penney shopspers.   The 33 stores to close will do so by this May.

Would you miss J.C. Penney if it left our area?  It's the only store left in our area with an escalator, right?
