The Johnson Park Center is doing its best to make sure no one is going hungry in Central New York, but lack of funding has forced them to cut their food giveaways in half and put restrictions on who is eligible for the free food.

In prior food giveaways, no ID was needed, and there were no boundary restrictions. Still, until further notice, the Drive-Thru Free Food Giveaway Rain or Shine is for disadvantaged individuals and families around the JPC Sites on the 1400 block on West Street in Utica.

Due to lack of funding, JPC had to make cuts. We reduced having two to one drive-thru per month. [JPC]

The Johnson Park Center will be having its last food giveaway for March, today Monday 22, from 2PM to 7:30PM. Starting on the corner of Arthur and West Streets, vehicles will line up at the registration station where JPC Intake Persons, wearing face masks, will assist you with completing the Intake Form. They will place the number of households represented in each car on its windshield. Then you will drive up to each food station, where volunteers will put the food in your vehicle.

A tractor-trailer full of food will be available to be given to the community. Food items may include Frozen 10 lbs. bag of uncooked quarter leg chicken, beef stew, string cheese, eggs, cheese, mashed potatoes, elbow macaroni, fresh produce, fresh fruit, bread, hand sanitizer, etc.

Those without a vehicle can go to the JPC Walkers Free Food Giveaway Snow or Shine on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, from 3PM to 6PM at JPC Food Pantry 1404 West Street, Utica, New York 13501.

The need for food, hunger, and food insecurity continues to grow in our community. The significant increase is serving people who have not been to a Food Pantry before the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19)...There is a saying, "you can't judge a book by its cover”... All income levels have been affected. Middle-Class people, who never went to DSS, assistance organizations, and never went to a Food Pantry are being affected...are at the JPC Food Pantry. We will need your continued support to keep the shelves full and the pallets of food coming to meet the demand of 30,000 lb. of food handed out each week. [Rev. Dr. Maria A. Scates, D.D.]

The Johnson Park Center Food Giveaway helps families and individuals to have food on their tables, be food secured, and a stepping stone to self-sufficiency.
