Miley Cyrus Covers Paul Simon’s ’50 Ways to Leave Your Lover’ on ‘Saturday Night Live’ 40th Anniversary Special [VIDEO]
Simon, who has appeared as a guest and musical guest over a dozen times during the show's history, performed "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" during the Nov. 20, 1976 broadcast of Saturday Night Live featuring Beatles legend George Harrison.
Cyrus, wearing a white country outfit, put her own spin on Simon's single as she sang the heartbreaking lyrics with the stage band. The live performance also featured former SNL cast member Fred Armisen on the tambourines.
'50 Ways to Leave Your Lover' was written by Simon in 1975 following his divorce from his first wife, Peggy Harper. The song's lyrics are from the perspective of a mistress who gives advice to a man on ways to leave his wife for her.
The 'Wrecking Ball' singer appeared earlier in the night's broadcast in the show's opening monologue, as did Simon himself. Simon appeared briefly in the monologue with Sir Paul McCartney, as they both sang a few lines of a tribute track to the show's 40th anniversary celebration.
Cyrus is no stranger to paying tribute to the greats before her, however, as she's covered legendary artists such as Etta James and Led Zeppelin in the past. It seems fitting then that she chose to pay homage to one of the show's long-running favorite musical guests.
