The old signs were something of an anomaly and historical throwback in that they spelled out the highway name rather than the graphical sign.

Abandoned Utica Elementary School Inspires Student Project

Theodore Roosevelt Elementary sits abandoned and neglected on Taylor Ave in Utica's Cornhill neighborhood. Now the building is inspiring a Hamilton College student's creative writing project. BRICKS: An Intersection of Architecture and Community is a long-term project of Hamilton College students to understand what the space means to the community and to create a derived theater piece about the building.
