The New Yorker magazine has always been at the leading edge of progressive American culture and the cover for the July 8 & 15 double issue is no exception.

The cover depicts a couple relaxing, contentedly watching television coverage of the Supreme Court's overturning of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). The couple? They certainly resemble Sesame Street's most famous male roommates, Bert and Ernie.

This is not the first cover of The New Yorker that has provided commentary on marriage equality.  The magazine published a slide show of 8 other covers going back to 1994.
