Everyone has their go-to bar drink, or their favorite cocktail to have when they go out. The most popular cocktail in our state can easily be made in the comfort of your own home.

There's a new study out that found the most popular mixed drink in each state. According to SuperCall, researchers looked through Google Search data to find which cocktails were most popular in each state, and which cocktails showed up the most. Although the Long Island Iced Tea was one of the most popular drinks, it actually isn't the most popular mixed drink in New York. Not at least, according to the Google Search data.

So what was the most popular cocktail for our state?

That honor goes to the Moscow Mule... And we can't help but wonder if the Saranac Brewery has anything to do with the popularity of these drinks going up? Remember when they released their twist on the Moscow Mule back in 2016? It was branded as the "Mule Kicker" and was a part of Jed's hard soda line.

According to SuperCall, the Moscow Mule is definitely a popular drink across the country. Four other states had this drink as their most popular, which may not seem like that much, but only two other drinks were named more popular (and they tied). The Long Island Iced Tea and a Whiskey Sour both are the most popular drink in six different states.

Alright, so we showed you the data, now it's time to make New York's Favorite Cocktail in your own home. Luckily, it's really easy to do. Here's a recipe from a coworker at Townsquare Media (who actually used to be a bartender before he joined the radio world). This is what you need:

2 oz. Vodka
Ginger Beer
Lime
Ice

Juice half a lime into a cup (should be about half an ounce of lime juice). Then add the two ounces of vodka. Fill the cup with ice, and top it off with ginger beer. Be fancy and use a lime slice to garnish the drink.
***A Moscow Mule is usually served in a copper cup. It doesn't have to be, but if you're going to celebrate New York's favorite cocktail, why not?!

How do you feel about the Moscow Mule being New York's favorite cocktail? Did you assume it was going to be the Long Island Iced Tea? (we did). Did you expect our state's favorite cocktail to be something else? Let us know what you think - You can always leave us a comment or message on our Lite 98.7 Facebook Page.
