You can live in a house once inhabited by the Treasurer of the United States of America. And you can do it right here in Central New York.

The one-time owner, Francis Elias Spinner was Treasurer under presidents Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant. He was the 10th person to serve in that capacity. And he also has a lot of special connections to the Mohawk Valley, which was his birthplace and final resting place.

Spinner, born in German Flatts in 1802 and buried there in 1890. In between, a full life. Aside from his U.S. Treasurer position, he was also a member of Congress and the Herkimer County Sheriff. His final resting place is in the Mohawk Cemetery.
