Popular Blood Pressure Medication May Be Cancerous
A popular blood pressure medication used in Central New York and beyond is under voluntary recall by the Food & Drug Administration. According to a CNN report, several medications containing the active ingredient Valsartan may contain carcinogens, prompting the recall. Valsartan is used to control blood pressure, and prevent heart failure.
The US has joined 22 other countries that have recalled various Valsartan products. The recall includes products manufactured by Solco Healthcare, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and Major Pharmaceuticals. Valsartan users are recommended to check the prescription label to determine the manufacturer. If it's not there, you should contact your pharmacist or physician, just to be sure.
