Shakira is expecting her first child – a boy! -- this year and in lieu of a big, flashy, celeb-slathered baby shower with blue-wrapped gifts, the pop diva and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador held an online baby shower with baby daddy, footballer and trickster Gerard Pique. Their shower was a humanitarian effort to aid the world's most vulnerable babies. That's incredibly honorable of the couple to consider the needy and less fortunate children out there, since her son will be born into the lap of luxury.

"To celebrate the arrival of our first child, we hope that, in his name, other less privileged children in the world can have their basic needs covered through gifts and donations,” read the invitation from Shakira and Gerard. “Thank you for sharing this unforgettable moment with us."

The couple used social media to engage fans with their online baby shower. They can visit the couple's virtual living room and learn about child survival issues. They can also purchase an Inspired Gift for babies around the world that need the support.

UNICEF’s Inspired Gifts are real, life-saving items distributed to children and communities in some of the poorest areas of the planet. At the shower, the gifts costs as little as $5 and can be used to purchase things like a mosquito net to ensure a sleeping child is protected from malaria, a leading cause of child death.

A small donation of $10 can buy 17 polio vaccinations. The biggest item is $110 which can purchase life-saving Therapeutic Food, a peanut-based paste that can save an acutely malnourished child.

“Every expectant parent around the world shares all the same hopes and dreams for their children that we do,” said Shakira. “Yet many don’t share the same opportunities. Together we know we can change that.”

Those who purchased an Inspired Gift will receive personal "Thank You" from the expectant couple, who also shared this never-before-see, black and white photo, taken in December 2012.

Don't Shakira and her bulging baby bump look beautiful? Pique is not too shabby, either. They're even more beautiful for their generosity.
