Want to keep the peace in your family?  If your relationship with your mother-in-law could use some improvement, maybe this list of five things not to do might help you out.

A recent survey by Netmums  found that twenty five of women don't get along with their mother-in-law.  Yes, one in four women surveyed admit they hate their mother-in-law and describe her as "controlling and interfering."    Could that relationship improve if you did what Babble.com suggests?  Hey, it's worth a try, right?

1.  Don't talk negatively about your husband's childhood.  Remember, despite what stories you may have heard  you weren't there, so don't comment on it.

2.  Badmouth Grandma in front of the kids.  Don't rob your children of their relationship with your mother-in-law or rob her  of a relationship with them.  If they hear you talking badly about your mother-in-law, they'll pick up on it, remember it and you never know when they'll decide to share it.

3.  Restricting contact with your kids.  Unless she's the Wicked Witch of the West, keeping your children away from her just because you don't like her company is unfair to your kids and unfair to her.

4.  Ignoring that your husband was raised by your mother-in-law.  Most guys get that a wife and mother are two vastly different things.  He'll always need his mother and as his wife, you shouldn't try to stop that relationship.

5.  Looking for trouble where there really isn't any.  Her way of doing things may be very different from yours.  She may tell you something as a way of trying to help you out, not because she's judging or preaching.  Learn to recognize the difference.
