Update March 19, 2025: A tragic double homicide in Syracuse has left a 32-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy dead, with the suspect—David M. Huff, 43—now in police custody.

Syracuse Double Homicide: Victims Identified

The victims have been identified as Yeraldith Tschudy, 32, of Rochester, and Jeremiah Huff, 11, a sixth-grader at Gillette Road Middle School. Police say Tschudy was in a romantic relationship with David Huff, who was also the father of Jeremiah.

According to Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, Jeremiah’s mother was the first to call 911 after receiving a distressing call from her son shortly before he was killed.

In a message to parents, North Syracuse Central School District Superintendent Terry Ward described Jeremiah as a "friend to all" who loved skiing and skateboarding. The district arranged counseling hours from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday to support grieving students and families.

  • Monday, March 17th, around 9:34 p.m.: Syracuse Police responded to 128 Roney Road after reports of a shooting. Officers arrived to find Tschudy and young Jeremiah dead from gunshot wounds.
  • Overnight Search: Law enforcement launched an intensive search for David Huff, who was last seen near the crime scene.
  • Tuesday, March 18th, at 9:30 a.m.: After a tip from a concerned citizen, New York State Troopers located Huff walking near the intersection of West Seneca Turnpike and South Avenue, approximately two miles from the crime scene. He was taken into custody without incident.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Huff is currently being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center and is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday morning. He has been formally charged with:

  • First-degree murder
  • Second-degree murder
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon

Authorities have apprehended 43-year-old David Huff, the suspect in the double homicide investigation on Roney Road. Huff was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. near the crime scene after a tip from a citizen led police to his location.
