It is more common than you might think.  Abusive relationships start young and Seventeen Magazine is using a local story to draw attention to an issue that affects many relationships.

Jasmine V‘s video for ‘Didn’t Mean It’ is jarring since it is a realistic and often difficult-to-watch depiction of domestic violence in which the singer is slapped and dragged around a room by her boyfriend. It’s like a PSA for abuse issues. Turns out Jasmine V has firsthand experience with this prevalent social issue, since she was in an abusive relationship for a year.

In the beginning of Jasmine V‘s video for ‘Didn’t Mean It,’ just as we were shown in the teaser clip, she answers the door and is dragged by her hair, kicking and screaming, into the next room, where she screams and is beaten. It’s a really jolting and jarring way to start a video, but it’s also an extremely effective way to make a point about a serious social issue.
