Tens of thousands of residents are without power this morning following a devastating storm that ripped through Central New York. National Grid is providing an update on assessment.
On Wednesday, June 30, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch reporting that hail, lightening, and wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour. The first storm hit the area around 1:10PM.
Those thunderstorms which moved through Central New York last night sure were strong, causing damage and power outages. The heavy rain, thunder, lightning and high winds were intense and while I had some storm damage at my house, it could've been much, much worse.
Even though Chemung County is a little out of our listening area, the city’s Emergency Management Office is reporting a tornado came through Elmira yesterday (Thursday) after 4pm causing significant damage.
