There are all sorts of people in the world, and then there are the specific type of people you find on Facebook garage sales sites.

Recently, I've been selling all sorts of stuff on Facebook Marketplace, and I've noticed you encounter all sorts of people - some great, and some...not so great.

Let me say off the bat, I love Facebook garage sale sites. You can get some great deals and it has allowed me to clear some stuff out of the house and make a little cash on the side. Nearly everyone I've encountered has been awesome to deal with. They're polite, they show up when they say they're going to, and the pay the agreed upon price.

The 5 Kinds of People You Meet on Facebook Marketplace

  1. The awesome kind. As I mentioned above, these are the folks who do it all right - they communicate, they show up, they pay. This is really most of the people.
  2. The kind who don't read what you write. You take the time to clearly explain everything about the item...and then someone comments with a question that is clearly written in the description. "Will you deliver?" No, that's probably that's why I said - PICK UP ONLY.
  3. The rude negotiator. I am 100% down with you haggling on price - the worst thing that can happen is I say no. Unless you're rude. If something is being sold on Facebook, and you don't like the price, and your offer was rejected - there's no need to go on and on in the comments about how you can get it cheaper at Walmart. Then go get it.
  4. The last minute negotiator. I ask for $20. You agree to $20. Then magically, when you show up to pick up the item, you only have $15. Dude, I'd rather throw it away then get scammed - but maybe that's just me.
  5. The Choosing Beggar. I didn't make this name up, Reddit did. In fact, if you want to check it out, here you go: reddit.com/r/ChoosingBeggars/ You know these folks: they negotiate you down till you're giving away your $50 dresser for $5, and then they want you to deliver it, and they get indignant if you don't. Obviously, this is a twist on that old expression 'beggars can't be choosers'.

Like I said, the majority of people on Facebook garage sales are just great people looking for a good deal. Did I miss someone? Do you have a Facebook garage sale story to share? Send it to beth@lite987.com
