Thundersnow Captured on Tug Hill Plateau January 7, 2014

The arctic blast and heavy snow caused by the polar vortex during the massive winter storm of January 2014 included a phenomenon known as thundersnow captured on the Tug Hill Plateau in Upstate New York.

Tug Hill Plateau Whiteout Conditions

Route 12, which traverses a portion of New York's north country had very difficult travel conditions. Other roadways in the area such as Interstate 81 have been closed during the storm.
