When's the last time you were on an actual toboggan? Whether it's been a long time or not, a trip to Lake Placid is in order, so you can take the plunge down this thrilling toboggan chute.

Sure winter can be a bummer; it's cold, we all want to hibernate and not really do much, but you make the most of winter by enjoying a few adventures that you can find not too far from the Central New York area.

Take a nice drive through the Adirondacks, all the way up to Lake Placid, for an adventure you won't be forgetting any time soon. We're talking about their Toboggan Chute. And it looks like SO much fun! You can take a little virtual ride on it, in the video at the top of this page.

The toboggan chute used to be a ski jump, but they converted it into what you see now. According to LakePlacid.com, they recently remade it, and now it's ready to go (weather permitting, of course). Your ride starts at the top of the 30-foot hill, and ends as you slide across Mirror Lake. Lake Placid's website says riders can travel more than 1,000 feet across the lake!

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Hours are: Fridays and Saturdays 12pm - 4pm and 7pm - 9pm, and Sundays 12pm - 3pm (again, weather permitting).

If you're planning a trip to Lake Placid and want to check out the toboggan chute, it's best to call ahead to make sure they're operating (they need to make sure the ice is thick enough before they send people sliding over it). You can get information by calling: (518) 523-2445.
