Free is always the best kind of summer fun. With the support of Operation Sunshine, the Utica Zoo will be hosting free admission nights, the first being held on July 30th.

From 4 until 7 pm, you'll have access to the entirety of the zoo! Parking shuttles are available from MVCC and from the Parkway Rec Center starting at 3:30.

They'll also have food from Holy Smoques BBQ Fusion, as well as Voss' at the Zoo!

“The Utica Zoo is thrilled Operation Sunshine is partnering with us for our Free Admission Night,“ said Mark Simon, Marketing Coordinator of the Utica Zoo. “We have worked extremely hard over the last few years to upgrade and renovate many aspects of our grounds and exhibits, and being able to share all of that with such a large portion of our community is very exciting. We are privileged to be part of a community that looks out for each other and ensures every person has the same opportunities to experience all we have to offer.”

One of the exhibits that they've been working to upgrade and improve includes the home of the Mexican Grey Wolves. In case you missed it, they recently acquired four new wolves for that exhibit and are continuously working to advance and conserve the species.

According to their website, Operation Sunshine was founded in 1968, and since then has  helped hundreds local residents each year through funds awarded to non-profit agencies in and around Utica. A number of Operation Sunshine partner agencies will be present to provide valuable information to community members during the free admission nights.

The Utica Zoo is open 363 days a year.

UPDATE 7/31: The next free admission night will be held August 28th, according to the website.
