If you're a fan of Friendly's ice cream and other foods, you're still in luck...as long as you're in the Mohawk Valley, where the Burrstone Road location across from Utica College is still going strong.

Not so much for some other locations in Central New York and across the Northeast. Friendly's this week announced the closure of 23 shops from Maine to New York. The Empire State alone suffered 14 closures, including a few in the Syracuse and Rochester areas. Here's the list of Friendly's Restaurants that are closing down for good, as of April, 2019:

The company has closed about 100 of its stores since filing for bankruptcy protection in 2011.

Friendly's began as an ice cream shop in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1935. There are still nearly 200 locations up and down the east coast, plus Friendly's ice cream products are sold in various grocery and convenience stores.
