Clay Aiken is more than an artist you'll hear on Lite 98.7 during the holiday season. He's someone who feels he can make a difference in Washington. Clay Aiken just may get the Democratic Party nomination as he squeaked by Democrat, Keith Crisco, the state's former commerce secretary by fewer than 400 votes in a primary run recently. Update: Clay was declared the winner of the primary on Tuesday May 13th, 2014.

Back in February Clay announced that he’s running for Congress as a Democrat in the state he grew up in, North Carolina. He's running in an area of North Carolina that heavily leans Republican. It now looks like he'll run against current Republican Representative Renee Ellmers.
The LA Times Tells us:

Rep. Renee Ellmers won the seat from a Democrat in 2010 on a tea party wave; a favorite within her own party, the Republican is heavily favored to win.

You may recall that back in 2003, Clay Aiken finished in 2nd place on the popular singing show American Idol. Ruben Studdard won that race, but Clay hopes to win this one.
