Central New York is a very unique place, there's no doubt about that. With it's uniqueness comes the interesting conversations... And things you'll never hear.

Living in Central New York comes with it's own challenges, from dealing with massive snowstorms to ridiculous potholes and construction that just feels never-ending. But we're used to it. Whether you've been here your entire life or just moved in a few years ago, you learn fast how things work in this area. And you learn fast what people will say (and won't say) about Central New York.

So we made a little list; The 10 thing we know you won't hear a Central New Yorker say:

1 - "The potholes aren't that bad..." Really?! Where is this person driving??

2 - "Summer here is just too hot." - We may get a few days of 90-degree weather (if we're lucky). It really doesn't get that hot in Central New York.

3 - "There's no where good to eat." If you hear someone say this, they're obviously not looking. There are so many great places to eat all throughout Central New York, from chain restaurants to mom and pop shops, to upscale eateries, and everything in between.

4 - "I think we won't see any construction or roadwork this year." If someone says this, they must be delusional. There's always some work being done to our roadways, somewhere.

5 - "I wish it was snowing." Okay... This one you may actually hear, especially from the avid snowmobilers and winter activity lovers, but it's not too common to hear that sentence.

6 - "Saranac doesn't have a beer for me." This only works for someone who doesn't drink beer. If you drink beer, you're sure to find something from Saranac Brewery that you'll enjoy.

7 - "There's nothing to do in Central New York." This is right up there with "there's nowhere good to eat." If you hear people say these things, you KNOW they aren't trying. There's so much to see and do in Central New York, no matter what time of the year it is. Go to the museum or the Utica Zoo, grab a bite from Bite Bakery, go for a walk in one of the many parks, take a drive, take a ride on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad... See?! I just named a bunch of activities off the top of my head.

8 - "Central New Yorkers are so greedy!" You may hear this from some out-of-towner who doesn't know what they're talking about, but you won't hear it from a native. Just look at America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk - over $900,000 was raised this year. Any time there is a charitable cause, this area opens up their hearts and wallets more than I've ever seen before.

9 - "Living in Central New York is just like living in New York City." Yeah, you definitely won't hear that. CNY and NYC are definitely two different areas with two different ways of life.

10 - "The Adirondacks are overrated." We all know that our Adirondack backyard is one of the greatest things about living in Central New York. Even if you don't like camping or fishing, you can enjoy the small towns and festivals throughout the summer.
