Study Suggests Alcohol is Better Than Exercising for Living a Longer Life
We'll drink to this study, seriously! Maybe it's not so bad to have that glass of wine (or two) with dinner.
Now, we're not saying to put the dumbbells away for good, or to sell that treadmill. Exercise is still good, and has many benefits for improving your life. But, we also want to let you know that alcohol has many benefits, too. Most people know that red wine has many antioxidants that are good for your body, and they know the other benefits of having a glass of wine.
But the latest study suggests alcohol is even better than we previously thought. According to the Watertown Daily Times, a study was done on those who were already in their 90s. The study followed daily habits of those involved to find the key to their longevity. According to Watertown Daily Times,
[The study] discovered that those who drank roughly two glasses of beer or wine a day were 18 percent less likely to experience a premature death, the Independent reported.
Those who exercised daily for 15 to 45 minutes also reduced their risk, but by 11 percent.
So what can we take away from this new information? Well for one, most things are fine in moderation, and a lot of things are actually good for us in moderation. We hear stories all the time that coffee is good for you, then another story tells you coffee is bad for you. Apparently the same goes for alcohol. Alcohol in moderation can be good for you, but obviously too much isn't. Don't beat yourself up for enjoying a glass of wine or your favorite craft beer, in the end it could benefit you.
And if you see yourself hitting that 90-year mark (or older), maybe get in that exercise, but don't forget to reward yourself with an adult beverage, too.
