The Covered Bridge Challenge was created to get snowmobilers out to explore new trails across New York State.

How it works:

There are two challenge routes that travel through 11 covered bridges (and one tunnel) along New York's 11,000 miles of snowmobile trails.

All you have to do is pick a route(Eastern or Western Branch) and ride across at least 5 of the 6 different covered bridges on each trail.

This year, a sixth 'wild card bridge' has been added to each branch, so you can choose which 5 to cross.

Then snap picture of yourself, your sled and each bridge you cross.

Submit your photos to the NY snowmobile web map website, and you'll get a decal to proudly display on your sled, helmet or trailer!

When you're ready, head over to the NY snowmobile web map website for more information, maps and details on how to plan out your trip.

This is not a race, but rather an excuse to ride new trails that you wouldn't have before.

Event organizers encourage you travel to each spot when a local club is hosting a particular event, and linger at some of the favorite haunts of local riders.

The NY Snowmobile Phone app has events posted by different clubs, turn-by-turn navigation and includes both routes. The best part of the app - it's free and doesn't require cell phone service to use the maps!

You can find photos and more information about each location on the Covered Bridge Challenge, the Phone app and more on the Covered Bridge Challenge Facebook page.
