Central New York is at an 'enhanced risk' for strong storms and the possibility of a tornado, especially in the Mohawk Valley.

The National Weather Service has upgraded the risk of severe weather for Central New York from 'Slight' to 'Enhanced' - they've also moved up the timing for the storms expected to hit the Mohawk Valley today.

According to the NWS, damaging winds, large hail, locally heavy rain, and the possibility of a tornado are likely in the area this afternoon, around 1pm.

"There is an enhanced risk severe thunderstorms Thursday. Strong to
severe thunderstorms are expected to develop, especially Thursday
afternoon into early evening with a cold frontal passage. Damaging
winds and large hail are anticipated with the strongest storms, and a
even few tornadoes will be possible in the region", warns the National Weather Service.

Potential of thunderstorm wind gusts around 70 MPH and 1-2” hail from the stronger thunderstorms. Tornadoes are also possible. Isolated flash flooding is possible mainly in central NY.
