That Small $9.84 Credit Card Charge You Received Could Very Well Be Theft
Next time you look at your bank or credit card statement, check it thoroughly because of a new scam. Thieves are taking and charging small amounts -- less than $10 -- at a time so the charges go unnoticed.
The Better Business Bureau says you need to look for a charge of exactly $9.84.
A large group of scammers have been making these relatively small charges on millions of peoples' accounts as of late. The though is that stealing less than $10 from a million people would be easier than a million from 10 people.
The $9.84 charges looks like an ordinary generic charge on your account from a business you wouldn't remember or think to question it, assuming it's just a tab from a random restaurant, store, or gas station.
The best advice if you see the charge is to call your credit card company or bank to report the charge immediately and request a new card.
