Cuomo Says He’ll Wait Until “Last Minute” to Make Call on NY State Fair
There may still be a chance for the New York State Fair after all.
During the Governor's briefing on Thursday, he said he would wait until the very last minute to decide whether the fair, which draws over a million people to Onondaga County, will go on as scheduled in August.
“We’ll make the decisions when we have to make the decisions,” Cuomo said. “But let’s see what the facts are at the last minute that we have to make a decision.” Cuomo also said he needs a "drop dead" date from fair organizers.
The Governor has previously said calling off the fair would be "heartbreaking" but holding the event, which attracts patrons from all over the state "would not be a good idea." The Governor cautioned that crowds could spread the virus quickly.
As five regions of New York, including the Mohawk Valley and Central New York meet the criteria to reopen, the Governor says he will continue to monitor the situation and virus data.
In the meantime, your favorite fair foods are available to satisfy your cravings in case the fair doesn't happen. Longtime fair food vendor, Main Event Amusements, is hosting 'Carnival Eats' is Syracuse for the next three weekends. You can grab fair specialties including deep fried Oreos and funnel cakes.
If the New York State Fair happens this year, will you be there? Will you change how you enjoy the Fair if you do go?
