It's official! I celebrated my first birthday in Central New York, and it was everything I could have expected it to be. Last week, I asked you how you normally celebrate your birthday in CNY, and then I used ideas from the responses to celebrate my own.

My birthday fell on Friday, so the start of my day was like any other day - I played on-air for awhile, took requests, and shared stories. Oh, and I may have indulged in a giant cupcake. The good news about having a Friday birthday though, I had the whole weekend to celebrate.

Saturday I took a listener's advice (his suggestion on how to celebrate a birthday out here), and I headed to the Utica Comets game. I had amazing seats - right behind the goalie. Sitting right there let me catch an amazing video of Hunter Shinkaruk scoring a sweet goal. The Comets won, so of course that made my birthday that much better.

After the game, it was time for drinks in Utica. A few of us headed over to Gerber's 1933 Tavern - a pretty nice bar, that actually used to be a speak easy. There we had a few drinks, bragged about how awesome the Comets are, and wrapped up the night.

Sunday was the Utica "Comets Hockey for Hope" Fundraiser. Now, that was probably the best way to end my birthday weekend. I got a chance to meet a lot of the Comets Players, get autographs, and take pictures. I was even able to play Travis Ehrhardt and Alexandre Grenier in a game of pool. Even though they won, it was still an awesome game.

I have to say, my first birthday in Utica was more than amazing. I can't wait until next year (when I have a little bit more money), and can really go out and enjoy something special for my birthday, that this area has to offer!

Here's to another year older, but unfortunately not wiser (not yet, anyways).
