Was there ever a time when you were a kid that you were fascinated by a Kaleidoscope? I remember learning about them and LOVED them solely for all the fun colors and the shapes.

Here's a fun fact - did you know the World's Largest Kaleidoscope is located right here in New York State? It is! The Kaatskill Kaleidoscope, is deemed the World's Largest Kaleidoscope. And to answer your question: yes, it is certified by the Guinness Book of World Records.

If you're ever traveling in the Catskills in Ulster County, it is an attraction part of the Emerson Resort and Spa. It's on Route 28, west of Woodstock in Mount Tremper, about 20 miles west of the Thruway. Also about two and a half hours from Utica, but definitely worth the trip.

According to Trip Savvy, the silo containing the kaleidoscope stands at 56 feet tall and 38 feet in diameter. There's a ten minute show inside, where you'll "feel enthralled by the visual convergence of chaos and symmetry."

Many people have posted about their experience on Trip Advisor, and based on the reviews, it's definitely a really great way to keep the kids entertained.

"We stopped by while in the area. Quite impressive to note how they turned a silo into the kaleidoscope. We were greeted by friendly folks working there. Free to those staying at the hotel and spa...$5 for those of us just stopping by. Interesting, worth $5."
"Excellent for what it is: a "roadside attraction." Best giant kaleidoscope I've ever seen--'cuz it's the only one. I like this kind of quirky thing. I liked this. It delivered what I expected. It is absolutely worth a stop and the $5 admission if you happen to be in the area. In our case, we drove fifty miles to see it and I'm glad we did. Not everybody would agree. Be guided by your instincts. If you think it sounds cool, you'll probably like it. If you think it sounds dumb, you probably won't."
"My husband and I very much enjoyed the show, it was just long enough to keep our attention and was very comfortable since we were the only ones attending at that time."

Visitor reviews are right about the admission fee. It's $5 per person, per show. Children 11 years old and younger are free.

Apparently their gift shop is a really interesting place too with many different kinds of kaleidoscopes to choose from and purchase.
