It's going to be a few more years until we add Legoland New York to the list of nearby amusement parks. In the meantime, here's a look at some parks that are open for fall and the holidays.

Great Escape is holding "Fright Fest" through October 29th with haunted attractions throughout the park. In addition, their Facebook page mentions a special post-Halloween weekend of rides:

For the first time ever, we are offering one last chance to get your Great Escape fix in after Fright Fest. On the first weekend in November, not only will you be able to ride some of the best attractions in upstate New York, but also get some Great Escape gear at blowout prices! This amusement and water park is between Buffalo and Niagara Falls and is a lot of fun in the summer. This time of year, it becomes "Halloween Horror" with lots of terrifying stuff to see. It's a short day trip and could be a "scary good" time. They're open weekends through Halloween.

WARNING - this video shows a display that has since been taken down at the park due to its graphic nature.

Similar to Great Escape, this Six Flags park has "Fright Fest" going on through Halloween. They are also open for Thanksgiving for a special weekend of activities. The park is also open weekends through December, and limited hours the whole week between Christmas & New Year's.

This theme park and chocolate mecca has lots of things to do in the fall. "9 Sweet Days of Halloween" runs through October 29th with many of their regular rides in operation, along with a trick-or-treating trail and more spooky fun after dark.

Hershey also offers great holiday vacation options from Thanksgiving through Christmas. And yes, chocolate does make the holidays even sweeter.

This amusement park is a little ways north of Toronto, but it's still a great option for a weekend getaway or a fall vacation. Through Halloween they're offering "Camp Spooky Fun by Day, Haunt Fear by Night", which means fun for the whole family depending on everyone's level of terror. The park and Halloween Haunt attractions are just open through October 29th.

It may not seem like the best time of year to ride the rides, but the smaller crowds and festive atmosphere make for a great mini-vacation.
