Facebook gets blamed for a lot in the media, but the only fault of this next story falls on this girl’s friends and family.

A 42-year-old British woman committed suicide after announcing she was going to on a status update on Facebook. She publically talked about suicide, and NONE of her 1,000+ friends even thought to check on her. What’s even scarier is some of her friends lived in walking distance of her home!

The girl’s status read: "Took all my pills be dead soon bye bye everyone."

Now I don’t know about anyone else, but if I saw a friend’s status liked this I’d report it to family, friends, and authorities to try and help her out! But instead of anyone picking up the phone or trying to check on her, many just responded to the status with messages like:

'She ODs all the time and she lies.'

'She does it all the time, takes all of her pills. She's not a kid anymore.'

'She has a choice and taking pills over a relationship is not a good enough reason.'

So instead of helping out, friend’s poked fun! The girl’s mother wrote the following message:

'My daughter passed away today so please leave her alone now.'

She later explained that nobody even contacted her about the status!

"Nobody told me anything about it until the following day when I was sent a text saying: 'get help.' It is upsetting to think nobody did anything for my daughter."

It seems clear that this woman was deeply troubled, but this says something how people don’t react to serious situations. My friends and I will bust chops every once in a while, but I’d never fake a suicide status, or make fun of one!
