The Utica restaurant that stepped up to help a homeless man is taking things a step further, collecting items to help others in need.

The Hub Eatery in Utica was recently visited by a homeless man who was caught on surveillance cameras stealing the restaurant's tablecloths to use as blankets as the person went to sleep on the restaurant's outdoor patio.

Frank Cotrupe, owner of The Hub Eatery, instead of calling the authorities, decided to make food and blankets available for the man.

Now, The Hub is hosting an open mic night and is collecting non-perishable food items, along with warm coats, boots, and spare blankets as part of the event.

The Open Mic Night takes place Friday, September 5 from 6-9pm at The Hub Eatery at 222 Bleecker Street, Utica.
