Shakespeare Comes To the Utica Zoo
You've heard of "Shakespeare In The Park", so why not "Shakespeare In The Zoo"? This is your chance to see a 17th century tragicomedy performed right around the corner from the monkeys.
The Little Falls Theater group, LiFT, will be bringing their production of The Tempest to the Utica Zoo, Saturday, August 19, 2017. This is their 5th season of touring Summer Shakespeare performances around the Mohawk Valley, from Little Falls and Herkimer to Caroga Lake and Utica. They already have 4 performances under their belts this year, so the show at the Utica Zoo should be one of the best yet.
LiFT first contacted Andria Heath at the UZ last year to see if a production at the Amphitheater would be possible.
Anyone that knows Andria knows that she is 100% community focused and willing to try anything to enhance the mission of the zoo as it relates to the impact on our community. (Laura Powers/LiFT)
Now back for a second year, LiFT feels quite at home in these unique surroundings. Come see this tragicomedy, which is considered to be one of Shakespeare's greatest works, surrounded by alpacas, goats and a red fox. You'll probably even hear monkeys laughing at the jokes and the sea lions barking their "seal" of approval.
LiFT's production of The Tempest will take place at 2pm on Saturday, August 19th at the Utica Zoo Amphitheater. Admission to the show is included with your regular admission to the zoo and donations will be accepted to help LiFT continue to spread Shakespeare around Central New York.
