The light from electronic devices may lead to serious eye problems, according to a study from the University of Toledo.

Researchers say that when you look at your computer or cell phone screens, the blue light is reflected by your eye's cornea and lens onto your retina. That blue light can then damage the retina, which can speed macular degeneration - an incurable condition that affects the middle part of vision.

Age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in the US and while it does not cause total blindness, it can make everyday activities such as reading and recognizing faces difficult, according to The Guardian.

So what can you do to protect your eyes?

Researchers say you can help protect your eyes by avoiding looking at your phone or computer in the dark - so no more scrolling Facebook in bed! You should also wear sunglasses that can filter both UV and blue light outside.
