Free food and milk drives have become a big part of the Central New York community amidst the coronavirus pandemic, providing much-needed assistance and security for vulnerable families and those out of work.

While they may seem fewer and far between, the giveaways are still happening, and one is planned for this week in Central Square, New York.

The American Dairy Association, Upstate Niagara Cooperative, Glazier Packing Company, Central Square School District and other community partners are coming together to pass out food and milk to Central New Yorkers in need. The drive-thru event will be held at Central Square Middle School on 248 US-11 in Central Square starting at noon on July 23.

The groups have a total of 2,000 gallons of milk and 16,000 pounds of food to distribute, so each vehicle that stops by will receive two gallons of milk, along with a box with produce and a box filled with additional dairy products.

The event is drive-up only, so walk-ups will not be allowed and volunteers will distribute the items through windows or by placing it in vehicles' trunks. Families searching for information on Central Square's drive-up food and milk distribution event can find it online through a release from the American Dairy Association of the North East.
