The official first day of Spring is this Friday (March 20). With Spring in the air, it's time to get ready for some great springtime events happening in Central New York! (and maybe a few things I'll be checking out for 'New to Naomi').

Mining for Herkimer Diamonds

I can't wait to do this, seriously. I heard about mining for Herkimer Diamonds back in December, and my excitement quickly died when I heard they didn't open back up until April. It's almost April now, and my excitement is back. You can mine for this one of a kind gem, only found in this area, starting April 15.

The Binghamton 5k Color Run - April 26, 2015

Even if you're like me and couldn't run to save your life, this is an awesome event. Be a part of it, or stand on the race trail and watch the runners. Runners wear all white and get doused with color while running the course. The end is a beautiful result of color, people, and fun. It's not a timed race so if you want to be a part of it, there's no pressure! How great is that?!

The 2nd Annual Madison County Wine Festival - May 9, 2015

Last year it was a huge hit, so they're bringing it back again this year. The festival is at the Kallet Civic Center in downtown Oneida. Last year the event showcased different wineries, cheeses, food, and beer - even some from right there in Madison County. They're hoping this year's event will be twice as big (and of course twice as fun).

Head into the Adirondack Park

I was lucky enough to head into the Adirondack Park in the winter (and see mountains for the first time), but it's going to be a whole different experience in the spring and summer. I can't even imagine how beautiful the area will look with flowers, leaves on the trees, and all those lakes NOT frozen over. You don't need a special event or day to gather up the family and head into the Adirondack Park. Any free sunny day is a great day to get out and see the beautiful scenery that surrounds us in Central New York!
